Balboa Park is always a favorite photo shoot location of mine, and this session is one of my favorites! I love relaxed and romantic engagement photos, and this Balboa Park engagement session uses all my favorite spots in the park. Our session was on a busy Sunday afternoon, when the park was crowded, so we chose a few farther areas to get away from everything. For this session, a little planning went a long way!

One of the things we do, is try to help couples get the most out of the engagement session. Sometimes we get together to go over planning. Other times, I peep through your Pinterest boards to get a sense of your style and what you’re into. (Follow me on Pinterest!) Our engagement sessions are totally customized. We tell the story of who you are as a couple, and every couple is different.

Before our session, Stella, Jose and I sat down for coffee to plan the engagement shoot, and talk about different location options. Stella mentioned to me that she envisioned her engagement session in a similar location to the Twilight wedding. There is only one place in San Diego even close, so I immediately thought of the redwood circle at Balboa Park. Not many people know about this secluded spot, but the woods there are excellent for romantic portraits.

We started our session in the forest, and made our way through the park, stopping along the way at all of the different locations to get a wide variety of looks and backgrounds. An outfit change was quick and easy because our route was well-planned. The variety at Balboa Park is seriously impressive and it’s a great location for a San Diego engagement shoot!

Congratulations Stella & Jose! Stay tuned for more of this gorgeous couple! We are so honored and excited to be photographing their San Diego wedding this September!
